8 Steps to Get More People Coming to Your Shows

Post by: SHS Piano Coach, John DapaahSHS-wedding

As musicians there’s no other feeling like playing for a packed house. Whether it’s at a small coffee shop or a giant stadium, sold out shows are every artist’s dream. Most aspiring artists don’t have a marketing team to promote their shows SO here are 8 steps to promote your concert and get your fans out!

1. Social Media – This is the MOST important tool you have. It’s easy to use and free. Create a Facebook fan page, youtube page and consistently post content to increase your fan base.

2. Connect with local music stores/venues – You know the saying “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” ? Well that statement could not be more true in the music industry. Befriend the coffee shop, bar, music store owners. Offer your services to them and who knows what that relationship can lead to.

3. Collaborate with other musicians – When you collaborate with others to put on a show, the bring their fans. Not only will it make your show more exciting but you will reach new audiences.

4. Pitch your show to local press – Reach out to your local newspaper, radio stations to promote your music and show. Having some kind of press gives you more credibility. The more press, the better.

5. Put a charitable handle – Have a portion of your proceeds go to a charity. The charity will promote your gig and have their supporters come out. This is also good for future collaboration so you can work with the charity again.

6. Giveaways – Everyone loves free things. Have a couple door prizes at your show. Make sure to advertise about the giveaway. Give away a couple CDs, merchandise, gift cards. It’s a small investment that will pay off.

7. Start advertising early – Don’t wait til the last minute to start promoting your show. Advertising a couple days before your show won’t work.. unless you are Taylor Swift or Beyonce. The earlier you start the more people you will reach.

8. Let your music do the talking – You’ve done all you can to bring more people to your show. Now it’s up to you to make convert them into a fan. Play your music and let it speak for itself!
