Our end of year showcase is quickly approaching – and we are very excited, we hope you are too!
A few reminders to mark the following dates on your calendar:
#1) Friday, Jun 19th from 5-9PM, Dress Rehearsal at the Shenkman Arts Centre in the Music Studio Room
INFO:
– Arrive dressed in what you will be wearing for your real performance – from hair to make-up to outfit to shoes!
– A short vocal warm-up will be held at the start of the rehearsal, so at 5PM sharp > For children that are under 10 years old, we encourage at least 1 parent to be present at the rehearsal as the teachers will be very busy working the various performances and it will be difficult to gage who is coming in/out of the rehearsal room. We encourage everyone to stay for the entire rehearsal to support all performers. You will also learn by watching others what the teachers provide as feedback. It is also a great opportunity to get to know other students – we promise to have some activities that will help everyone get to know each other better 🙂
– Please bring a snack to share and a water bottle > Your song lyrics should be 100% memorized! No exceptions!
#2) Saturday, Jun 20th from 7-10PM, “A Night with the Stars” SHS Annual Showcase at the Shenkman Arts Centre in the Harold Shenkman Hall
INFO:
– All performers, volunteers, and if needed, guardians for 10 and under, should meet Chantal Hackett backstage of the Harold Shenkman Hall – if you don’t know where that is, please check-in at guest-services on the 1st floor and they can direct you. Backstage access will be granted between 2:30PM-3PM.
– Sound check will begin at 3PM sharp and end at about 5:30PM – while you wait your turn for your soundcheck, you can get ready in the change rooms, there are mirrors, plugs and everything you need to look like the star you are! Bring your make-up, your hair products, your stage clothes, shoes…name it! Remember though, we are not responsible for lost items, so stay organized and as neat as you can so you don’t loose anything. We also recommend you download your instrumental track onto your iPhone/iPod so that you can rehearse backstage so you use your time wisely.
Here is the FINAL schedule:
3-5:30PM: Sound Check: Students get ready backstage – all students must stay backstage or watch sound checks at all times, except for during dinner break where they can go outside for a bite to eat before the big show (get some air) – it is not permitted to leave the Shenkman Arts Centre grounds unless one of our team members sees a written text or get the OK from their parent (no matter the age).
5:30-6:30PM: Dinner Break – Included in the showcase package and provided by our wonderful sponsors at Pita Pit Orleans > Vocal warm-ups & PhotoShoot in the Shenkman Main Lobby shot by our wonderful friends at 3stems Photography. > Guests arrive and doors open for show, our sponsor DJ’s from Purple Play Entertainment will spin all the great Hollywood jams while guests are being seated – remember, tickets this year are general admission, so first come first serve – although all seats are quite good! We are expecting between 400-500 people and we have approx. 50 tickets left at the box office, so if you need more, you can purchase directly through guest services or online HERE.
7PM: Part 1 of show starts – all students must remain backstage for the entire 1st part, even if they have already performed. Those who only perform in Part 2 can go watch the show but come backstage at Part 2 after intermission break. All our students have a ticket to go see the show.
Approx: 8:15PM – a 20 minute intermission where our students can go out and mingle and take photos at our Hollywood themed Photo Booth, a glamorous bar will then open where guests can order drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and check out our sponsor booths. Single flowers will be for sale (cash only) at $5.00 if you wish to support our sponsor, Capital Flowers & Events who have graciously donated flowers bouquets for our volunteers. After the intermission is over, if your child has already performed, they can join you for the second half of the show, but must come backstage again at the last 5 performers of Act 2. All our students will have tickets and will be able to access the show with you, just save them a seat so they can sit with you.
8:35-10PM Part 2 of show starts and ends – all our students will be part of the last number and can wear the same thing they wore for their individual performances.
Our dedicated partner company, Karma Creative Solutions will be filming all your performances – an add-on included this year in your showcase bundle. Janna Glenn from Karma will be e-mailing you the videos sometime in the summer so you can then share with your friends and family.
